Knicks Interested in Nash?

The Bleacher Report claims that the Knicks are interesting in adding two major names this offseason.  One is Bismack Biyombo, who we reported on yesterday.  The other is Steve Nash, maybe the ideal point guard for Mike D’Antoni’s system.

The New York Knicks are generating some buzz, with multiple trade rumors and draft prospect talk making the rounds today. They are looking to trade up in the draft from their 17th overall selection and possibly get into the lottery, and they also may be looking at a deal with Phoenix that would land them a Hall of Fame point guard.

Another huge rumor coming out of the Big Apple is that they would like to reunite head coach Mike D’Antoni and superstar power forward Amare Stoudemire with Steve Nash. The trade would involve swapping veteran point guards, Chauncey Billups for Nash, and possibly some other pieces to entice Phoenix to let go of Nash, who has won two MVP’s with the Suns and has reached icon status in the desert.

Obviously, Nash would be a perfect fit for the Knicks.  Why would the Suns want to trade Nash?  I’m not really sure.  The deal would definitely include Chauncey Billups, who has virtually the same contract as Nash.  Both have expiring contracts, so the Suns would almost definitely demand Landry Fields or Toney Douglas to be included in a deal.  I’d prefer not to deal them, and I’m not sure I would if I had to.  The ideal situation would be for the Knicks to package the 17th overall pick with Billups for Nash.  But you have to wonder if Nash, who is three years older than Billups, is ready to break down.
